The Mission of
Head Start National Programs
Head Start is a national program that promotes
school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health,
nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families.
Head Start...What is it?
The Head Start program provides grants to local public and private
non-profit and for-profit agencies to provide comprehensive child development services to economically disadvantaged children
and families, with a special focus on helping preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful
in school. Little Cats is the local branch of Head Start. HISD meets the needs of children in our community
by understanding that the earliest years are crucial for children's growth and development.
Head Start programs provide children with opportunities to embrace school readiness. This is achieved by enhancing
the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other
services to enrolled children and families.
Our Pre K program is an income
based program for students who are 4 years old on or before September 1. It is based on total income of the household and
the number of people living in the household. Presently, we have 4 half day classes. Our Pre K and Head Start classes have
a certified teacher and a classroom assistant in each one. We offer speech services for those who qualify. The Hallsville
Little Cats campus helps students to progress toward their educational goals. We are very proud of the dedicated classroom
staff, as well as, our speech teacher.
